Many patients become flustered and scared when they hear that they require root canal therapy. We’re here to let you know that there’s nothing to worry about when you visit Metropolitan Endodontics for care. Not only do we make sure you are comfortable throughout the process, we also make every effort to minimize any discomfort during your visit. Dr. Sara Shambayati is an endodontic specialist, meaning she has completed an additional one year of residency and two years of education in an advanced specialty program after dental school, making her an expert on performing root canals.
We typically conduct root canals when a patient has developed a tooth infection and/or pulp inflammation. This is when an untreated cavity has created a path for harmful oral bacteria to enter the inner chamber of your tooth and infect or inflame the pulp. Some of the symptoms that may signal your need for this treatment include:
If you experience any of these, please contact our office immediately.
Root canal therapy typically takes place over the course of one to two appointments First. Dr. Shambayati will numb the area using a local anesthetic. She’ll then create an access space at the top of your tooth so she can reach in to remove the infected pulp. After thoroughly sanitizing the inside of the tooth to make sure that no harmful bacteria linger, she’ll restore the structure using a putty-like substance called gutta percha. Finally, she’ll place a temporary filling.
